Obituary of James Derward Luker, Jr.

James Derward Luker, Jr., passed away February 11, 2022, at his residence in Foley, AL. A graveside service will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends from 9:30 am to 10:30 am, prior to services at Usrey Funeral Home. Dr. Ken Moore, pastor of Morgan’s Chapel United Methodist Church will officiate. Mr. Luker was born in Staten Island, NY while his father served in the United States Coast Guard during WWII. His family returned to Talladega after the war and owned and operated Ritz Furniture Company for approximately 63 years. He was a former member of First United Methodist Church in Talladega, AL and a current member of Morgan’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Bon Secour, AL. Mr. Luker was a 50-plus year member of Masonic Lodge #261 in Talladega. He was preceded in death by his parents, James D. Luker, Sr. and Mary Frances Limbaugh Luker and his daughter Dena M. Luker Mosley. He is survived by his wife of 27 years Mary B. Luker, daughter Vicki Luker Strampe, son John O. Luker (Krytal), stepdaughter Amy Catherine Robinson, 10 grandchildren and one step-grandchild. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice. Mr. Luker was very active and fond of the Bread Ministry of Morgan’s Chapel United Methodist Church. The ministry provided much needed meals to 60 to 80 families per week in the Bon Secour and Foley area. Donations may be made to Morgan’s Chapel United Methodist Church Bread Ministry, P.O.
