Among the listed survivors are numerous beloved nieces and nephews. He was born in Opelika, Alabama on March 26, 1942. He graduated high school from Marion Military Institute where he was a proud member of the White Knights. After graduating from Auburn University, he attended medical school earning his M.D. at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1968. His vocation and life’s work were manifested through his service to the healthcare of his community. After completing service in the Army at Fort Rucker he moved to Talladega, Alabama to start a private practice. Charles Lambert was a founder and full partner at Talladega Surgery Associates (1975-2009) and Talladega Primary and Urgent Care Center (2009-2011). He finished his career by serving on the medical staff at Alabama Institute of the Deaf and Blind until 2020. Some of his accomplishments over the course of his career include, Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Secretary/Treasurer of the Alabama Chapter of the American College of Surgeons (where he served as president from 2008-2009), Fellow of the Southeastern Surgical Congress and Fellow of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery. When not performing surgery, Dr. Lambert could be found pouring into the community in other ways. He served as president of the PTA of his children’s school and on the Vestry at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church where he was a faithful member. He also served as a clinician at Talladega Superspeedway. Dr. Lambert was a lifetime supporter of all Auburn athletics and was a rabid “foaming at the mouth” Auburn football fan. Being a master woodworker, he enjoyed creating custom pieces for family and friends. He was proud that all of his grandchildren slept in beds that he built. He also enjoyed other creative endeavors such as breadmaking, canning and jelly making. It was his joy to deliver these goodies to friends, family and patients. This was truly part of his ministry with his wife Carol. Travel and adventure are how he loved to experience life. Some of the activities he most enjoyed with his family were camping, road trips and amusement parks. Just a few years ago he was enjoying the Goliath and other major rollercoasters with his grandchildren at Six Flags. Dr. Lambert traveled all over the United States and the world, including France and Israel. His appetite for adventure meant that he was always planning the next trip. The Lambert family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the loving care of those who they consider to be part of their family: Betty Simmons, Tommy Lee Wells, Terrie White and Tonette Wells. The family would also like to express their love and gratitude to Dr. Lambert’s fiancé, Susan Morrow. We will be forever grateful for the steadfast love, patience and compassion that she had for their beloved father. A funeral service will take place at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church on Thursday, February 10, 2022, at 3pm. A visitation will precede the service in the church parish hall beginning at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church 208 North St E, Talladega, Alabama 35160.
