Please share a memory of Reuben to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Reuben Alfonzo “R.A.” Milam passed away at his home on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at the age of 80 years old. A graveside service will be held in his honor at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at Providence Baptist Church Cemetery with Frank Gunter officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Friday, January 21, 2022 at Usrey Funeral Home in Talladega. Mr. Milam married the love of his life, Elizabeth, in April of 1962, and they raised four wonderful children together. Nothing made R.A. happier than taking his children and nieces and nephews-which he loved as his own-on many various adventures over the years. (A trend which he continued later on with his grandchildren.) He always loved just a little bit of mischief. Mr. Milam tried his hand at many different things throughout his life, and eventually retired from M&B Metals. After retirement, he enjoyed making everyone in town smile as a door greater at Wal-Mart. He was a kind and devoted family man that always made sure that everyone knew just how much he loved them. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Elizabeth Milam; son, James Wilson Milam; daughters, Valerie (Eric) Cook, Lynn (Mark) Shirey, and Stacy (Ed) Wyatt; grandchildren, David Lee (Memory) Dockery, Denise (Chase) Simpson, Heather (Tyler) Wesley, Savannah Shirey, Katelyn Shirey, Erica (Jack) Bailey, Wesley Shirey, Joshua Wyatt, and Devin Wyatt; great-grandchildren, Kayla (Garrett) Dorroh, Aidan Green, Ethan and Macy Dockery, Jaxton, Maelynn, and Calvary Simpson, and Elijah Wesley; mother-in-law, Sarah Strickland; brother, Pete Strickland; sisters, Jeannie Gunter and Stella (Joe) Gooden, and a host of beloved nieces and nephews. Mr. Milam is preceded in death by his father, Olin Milam, mother, Ruby Jewel Coursey, step-father, Clyde Coursey, and sister, Gloria Pilkington. Pallbearers will be DeWayne Gunter, Rick Higginbotham, Adam Higginbotham, Pete Strickland, Nicholas Strickland, Erik Strickland, and C.J. Gardner. Online condolences may be offered at www.usreyfuneralhome.com. Usrey Funeral Home in Talladega will direct the services.
