Obituary of Sue Haynes Stephens

Funeral service for Mrs. Sue Stephens, 88, of Munford, will be Thursday, September 25, 2014, at 7:00 pm at Munford Church of Christ. Ronnie Hurst, Jeff Clark and Shane Clark will officiate. Her family will receive friends Thursday from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the church, additional visitation following the service if needed. Burial will be Friday at 11:00 am at Munford Cemetery. The family will receive friends again on Friday from 9:30-10:30 at the church. Usrey Funeral Home of Talladega will direct.
Ms. Stephens passed away September 24, 2014 at her home.
She was a lifelong resident of Munford. She cared about the needs of others above her own. She served as DHR foster parent for 17 years. Throughout those years, she and her husband provided and cared for 35 foster children. She loved to quilt, fish, can, cook, watch Alabama football, write poetry and spend time with her family. She was a faithful and active member of The Church of Christ. She touched many lives through her faith and her works. She cooked meals for the shut-in, taught ladies Bible classes, and cared for the less fortunate. She studied her Bible daily. She will be remembered as our present example of a virtuous woman,
She is preceded in death by husband, Jay Lowell Stephens, sons, Timothy Paul Stephens, Jerry Lowell Stephens, daughter, Sara Nell Watts, granddaughter, Andrea Hurst, father, Willie P. Haynes, mother, Sarah Louise Haynes, brothers, Willie P. Haynes, Jr., James Haynes, Thomas Haynes and John F. Haynes, sisters, Sara Sadler and Grace Johnson.
Survivors include daughters, Barbara (Ronnie) Hurst, Kathy (Tommy) Shropshire, Jane (Lionel) Burns, sons, Joe Tom (Revonda) Stephens, Rusty Stephens, Charles (Kellie) Dunaway, 24 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, sisters, Julia (Gene) Gaither, Rosa McWilliams, Jo Ann Fambrough, brothers, Jerry (Mary Jane) Haynes, brother, Ted (Phyllis) Haynes.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Hurst, Joe D. Stephens, Craig Watts, Chad Watts, Gabe Shropshire, Casey Burns, Jeremy Burns and Timothy Dunaway.
Honorary pallbearers will be Greg Harbin, John Sullivan, Terry Gaither, Blake Lackey, Steve Kirk, Cannon Schoenbeck, Peyton Watts, Fisher Gaither, Judson Griffies, Daniel Burns, Hayden Burns, Will Hurst, Kendall Harbin, Trey Sullivan, Owen Sullivan, and Reagan Sullivan.
