Obituary of Mary Elizabeth Jones McGehee

Talladega - Mary Elizabeth Jones McGehee-- Mary Lib McGehee-- died on Wednesday, November 3, 2021. She departed peacefully at Idlewild, her home in Talladega, Alabama. Mary Lib was born in Talladega on September 11, 1925. Her parents were Turner Jones and Katherine Wallace Jones. She graduated from The University of Alabama in 1947. She was a History student and a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. In 1947 she married William Boyd (Billy) McGehee, Jr. of Montgomery, Alabama. Mary Lib and Billy had three children: William Boyd (Bill) McGehee III, Turner Joel Jones McGehee and Mary Elizabeth McGehee-Paulon. She spent most of her professional career as a travel consultant at her agency, Cheaha Travel Service. Her career grew out of a lifelong interest in travel, sparked by her parents. This flame burned until the end of her life. The First Presbyterian Church of Talladega was a constant beacon in her life. Mary Lib was preceded in death by Turner Katherine Jones, Billy McGehee, her sister Katherine Jones Mergendahl, and her son Bill. She is survived by her children: Turner McGehee (Julie Sheridan), Meg McGehee-Paulon (David); by her daughter-in-law: Evelyn McGehee; by her grandchildren: Katy McGehee Collins (Scott), Stella McGehee Tuten (Bill), Boyd McGehee, Martha McGehee Dwyer (Greg), Carey McGehee, Jim Paulon (Jeanne), Kim Paulon Poole (David); by her great-grandchildren: Turner Collins, Wiley Collins, Evie Tuten, MacGregor Tuten, Katherine Tuten, Anna Harrison McGehee, Mary Lib McGehee, Virginia McGehee, Leah Paulon, Jacob Paulon, and Alyssa Jarvis. The family thanks all those who helped Mary Lib stay at home and live well in her final years. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the First Presbyterian Church of Talladega or a worthy charity. Her funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 8, at First Presbyterian Church in Talladega with LeeAnn Scarbrough officiating. The family will visit with friends also at First Presbyterian Church beginning at 10:30 a.m., prior to the service.
