Obituary of Elaine Smith Stephens

Talladega, AL. – Funeral service for Elaine Smith Stephens, 85, will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 6, at Usrey Funeral Home in Talladega with Don Barnett officiating. Burial will follow at Bethlehem Methodist Cemetery in Munford. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until service time, also at Usrey. Mrs. Stephens passed away at her home November 3, 2021. Mrs. Stephens was born in Guntersville, Alabama, and lived most of her life in Munford and Talladega. She was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she served through the years, as Sunday School teacher, as a member of the Administrative Board and United Methodist Women. Mrs. Stephens has served as an active member of Kappa Kappa Iota Educators Sorority, Inter Se Study Club, Holly Garden Club, Landmarks Foundation Board and Talladega Junior Welfare League. After graduating from Jacksonville State University with a B. S. Degree in Elementary Education, Mrs. Stephens taught fifth grade at Idalia Elementary School, first grade at Munford School, and as reading specialist in Graham Elementary School, in Talladega. After her retirement, she worked in the family business, Stephens Carpet Co., as secretary and bookkeeper. Mrs. Stephens was preceded in death by her parents, J. Hugh, and Katherine Hiett Smith; a stillborn daughter, Leigh Ann Stephens; a son, Leslie Hugh Stephens, and a sister, Betty Frank Stewart. Survivors include her husband, Jackie F. Stephens; two granddaughters, Ashley Stephens, and Katherine Stephens; a grandson, Adam Martin Stephens (Jessica); great grandchildren, Ashlynn, and Olivia Owens, Chase and Harper Hallmark, and a brother, Randall Hugh Smith (Jewell). Pallbearers will be Adam Stephens, Chase Hallmark, Keith Williams, Eric Smith, Scott Stephens, and Barry Baines. Honorary pallbearers are Bob Woodard, Jim Robinson, Danny Haney, Danny Bice, Terrel "Snake" Powers, and Bill Morrow.
