Obituary of Sandra Lucille Willingham Godbey

Talladega, AL. – Sandra “Sandy” Lucille Willingham Godbey was born in California and grew up in Talladega. Sandy graduated from Auburn University in 1966 and participated in the marching band while in school. After graduation, Sandy taught school for many years in the Atlanta, Birmingham, and Charleston, South Carolina areas. After her retirement Sandy returned to Talladega and was active in the First Presbyterian Church and served as a church elder. She was also active in rescuing homeless dogs and helped place many dogs in loving homes. Sandy loved attending Auburn football and Atlanta Braves games and traveling and visiting with her many friends and family. Sandy was preceded in death by her father, Wasson Stone (Snow) Willingham; her mother, Frances Himes Willingham; sister, Linda Willingham; stepmother, Betty E. Willingham; and stepsister, Mary Kate Smith. Sandy was survived by her husband, Lee Godbey; brother, William J. “Bill” Willingham; mother-in-law, Tommie Duncan Godbey; sister-in-law, Marie Godbey, and numerous cousins. The family will receive friends at the fellowship hall of First Presbyterian Church, Talladega, AL. at 12 p.m., Saturday, November 6, 2021. A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. with Leann Scarbrough officiating and will be broadcast on the church’s Facebook page. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Talladega.
