Obituary of Maxie Christine Haywood Champion
Please share a memory of Maxie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Maxie Christine Haywood Champion, born January 28, 1934, went to be with her Lord on October 26, 2021. Her funeral service will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, October 27, 2021, at Providence Baptist Church with Jeff Duncan and James Coffman officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Mrs. Champion passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family. She was a lifetime member of Providence Baptist Church where she faithfully served her Lord and her community. She constantly kept her family amused with stories of her and Papa, memories so sweet. As a mother, there was none better meeting every need of her family until the last days. Mrs. Champion worked at Palm Beach for 35 years and took care of in-home patients with Gentiva Health until she was 80. Her favorite charity was St. Judes Children’s Hospital and the family asks donations there in lieu of flowers. Her lifetime goal was to furnish a well for a third world country and her family plans to fulfill that wish in her honor. There are not words to express how much she was loved and there is a big ole hole in our hearts that can never be filled. Thank you for loving her with us.
Mrs. Champion is survived by her daughters, Joyce Hartsfield, Mary Nell Thornton, Cindy Hendon; sons, Paul Champion, Don Champion; brothers, Doyle Haywood, Ralph Haywood, Tom Haywood, 19 grandchildren, and several great- grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Champion; son, Mike Champion; sisters, Clara Vise, Joyce Stoops; brothers, Richard Haywood, Alvin Haywood, Jr., and P.F. “Hoot” Haywood.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers and her brothers as honorary pallbearers.
