Obituary of Robert Donald Elkins

Robert Donald “Donnie” Elkins 72 of Talladega was born on February 11, 1949, the 7th of eight children, to Albert William Hollingsworth Elkins and Mildred Elizabeth McElwee- Elkins. Donnie married Lou Nell Ledlow the love of his life, on August 29, 1966 and together, had 2 daughters, Angie and Donna. Donnie was skilled as a mechanic and an avid dirt track racer and fan. He took many checkered flags at Talladega Short Track. He retired from the Talladega County Road Dept. in 2015 after 30 years of dedicated service. Donnie was a member of the Talladega Bible Methodist Church, where he was baptised on 9-23-2018. He was a friend to all he met and Kind hearted to a fault. He passed away peacefully on 9-12-2021 at Medical Center South in Montgomery with his two girls at his side. Waiting for him at the gates of Heaven along with his mother and father, was his wife of 48 years, Lou Nell, his sisters: Faye Elizabeth Sanders, and Ginger Ann Kilgore: and his brothers: Albert Wayne Elkins, Douglas Ray Elkins, and Charles Joseph Elkins. He leaves to cherish his memories his two beloved daughters: Angie Elkins Thomas(Tony),and Donna Elkins (Tim Hallmark).Grandsons: Adam Gauldin( Chelsea), Joey Elkins( Ashley), and Lukas Price .Granddaughters: Kaleigh McMeans( Tyrelle), Kelsey McMeans(Donte), and Emily Grace Price. Great Grandsons: Zaydon, Bravin, Bentley, Ashton, and Ezra. Brother: Jimmy Elkins and Sister: Barbara Swindall. Pallbearers will be: Richard Wolfe, Jimmy Elkins, Jeff Gauldin, Jimmy Hudgins, Billy Ray Elkins, Mike Taylor, and Tim Staples.
