Mrs. Bobbye Baker Trammell passed away September 8, 2021, at the age of 90. Her funeral service will be 2:00 pm, Sunday, September 12, 2021, at Bemiston United Methodist Church with Rev. Glenn Horn officiating. Entombment will follow at Pine Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum in Talladega. The family will receive friends Saturday, September 11, 2021, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Usrey Funeral Home in Talladega.
Bobbye graduated from Talladega High School in 1949, and later began a distinguished career with the United States Department of Agriculture, where she was awarded National Employee of the Year by the Secretary of Agriculture in 1987. Following her retirement from government service she ran a successful small business for several years. She was a lifelong Methodist and served Bemiston United Methodist Church as treasurer for over 30 years. After the death of her husband in 2003, Bobbye turned her time and passion to the improvement of her city. In 2004 she and other citizens founded the Talladega County Hall of Heroes, which continues to honor the memory and service of Talladega County’s veterans. A published author, she wrote a history of the Bemiston Community in 2009, which remains in print. On July 12, 2011, her 80th Birthday, Bobbye qualified and ran for Mayor of the City of Talladega. The citizens of Talladega honored her as Citizen of the Year in 2010.
She was preceded in death by husband Glenn, parents, Mr. and Mrs. John W. Baker, brothers John Alvin, J.W., and Odell Baker, and her sister, Juila Daphene Distler.
She is survived by her sister Gay Batchelor of Alpine; sons, Gary Glenn Trammell and wife Darlene Trammell of Talladega and Patrick Baker Trammell and wife Suzanne Trammell of Vestavia Hills; five grandchildren, Wesley Trammell, Sara Trammell Smith and her husband Kevin, Michael Trammell, Wyatt Trammell and Meg Trammell; two great grandchildren, Emma and Trevor Smith; numerous nieces and nephews, and every veteran of Talladega County.
The past and present board of directors of Talladega County Hall of Heroes will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Talladega County Hall of Heroes, 112 Court Square East, Talladega, AL 35160.
