Obituary of Bessie Williamson Smith

Talladega – Bessie Williamson Smith, 83, passed away September 7, 2021. The funeral service for Maw Maw Bess will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 10 at Usrey Funeral Home in Talladega with Tommy Strickland, and Jeffrey Oliver officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m., Thursday evening, September 9, also at Usrey in Talladega. She drank steaming hot coffee on warm days and spent time crocheting, sewing, and hemming for her friends, neighbors and loved ones. Maw Maw Bess loved attending Marvelous Monday at Mt. Olive Baptist Church and was a member of the Valley Grove congregation. She was retired from CM Offray in Anniston. Survivors include her daughter’s, Patricia Wyatt, Kathy Beverly and Kecia Hullett (Steve); her beloved stepchildren, Judy Mecham (Dick), Charles Smith (Jan), Glenn Smith (Frankie) and Dave Smith (Serena); grandchildren, Brad Cooper (Alana), Dallas Cooper (Teran), Cassie Chandler (Spencer Bridges), Lacey Macon (Steven), Jeffrey Oliver, and Dylan Hullett; sisters, Lemerle Murphy and Eunice Dover; ten great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, Jim and Arah Williamson of Wedowee; and her siblings, AZ Williamson, Bertha Dampier, Etheridge Williamson, Bruce Williamson, Willie Pearl Gosdin, Dessie Holt and Fred Williamson. Pallbearers will be Doug Browning, David Williamson, Ronald Williamson, Stephen Harvel, Nathan Smith, and Dalton Marler. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Brad Cooper, Dallas Cooper, Jeffrey Oliver, and Dylan Hullett.
