Talladega - Funeral services for John Howard Woodard, 90, will be held, Thursday September 4, 2014, at 11:00 am Usrey Funeral Home Chapel in Talladega. Rev. Joe Daniel will officiate and burial will follow at Pine Hill Memorial Park. John's family will receive friends Wednesday from 6-8 pm at Usrey Funeral Home. John passed away peacefully in his home on September 1, 2014. A longtime resident of Talladega, John was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church and former deacon of the Northside Baptist Church. He retired from employment as a master patternmaker and supervisor over the pattern shop for the U.S. Pipe and Foundry Company in Anniston, Alabama, following many years of service. John served in the United State Navy during World War II and was a proud participant in the Honor Flight program, honoring our nation's World War II veterans. He was a dedicated and beloved family man and a generous friend to all who knew him. John is survived by daughter, Melissa Darby "Lisa" Woodard of Talladega; sister, Lucy Dennis of Gadsden; brother, Bobby Woodard (Joyce) of Anniston; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by wife, Allene Ball Woodard; parents, William T. and Amanda Louise Woodard; brothers, Neal Woodard, Harold Woodard, and James "Pete" Woodard; and sisters, Lorraine Wyatt and Betty Lakey. John's nephews will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
