Obituary of Helen Dean Lackey

Helen Virginia Dean Lackey, 81, of Talladega, AL went to be with her Lord on June 4, 2021. She was born May 23, 1940 in Munford, AL to Jewell Dean and Evie Ray. She married her high school sweet heart,Bobby Lackey, while she was still in high school. They were married nearly 61 years when the Lord called Bobby home. Their marriage was a testimony of their commitment to God and each other. Together they had three children, Bobb, Benjamin, and Beckey, and seven grandchildren. Helen was an active member of the Church of Christ for her whole life. She loved to honor the Lord by teaching and serving. Throughout her life she taught Sunday school and ladies Bible classes. Her knowledge of the Bible was extensive and her ability to make stories come to life for young children was truly from God. She also had a passion for young women to fully understand their inner beauty and how inner beauty is reflected outwardly through the Holy Spirit. Countless children and women have been positively affected by Helen’s teaching and love. Helen held widows in high esteem as James 1:27 directs. She sent cards, made phone calls, and visited the nursing home weekly to serve God and woman. Her life was dedicated to serving the Lord. No one could possibly recount the amount of time and occasions in which she served. Helen is survived by her children, Bobb Lackey Jr (Leigh), Benjamin Lackey, Rebecca West (Jade), and 7 Grandchildren, Robby Lackey, Kadey Ledbetter, Colton West, Amber West, Luke West, Madison, Lackey and Caleigh Lackey and her sister Marie Keen. Helen is preceded in death by her parents, Jewell and Evie Dean, 6 sisters, Eloise, Pearl, Sarah, Wilma, Martha, and Ruby. Funeral services will be held 10: am Monday June 7, 2021 at Usrey Funeral Home Chapel in Talladega, with burial in Pine Hill Memorial Park. Rusty Stephens will officiate the service.
