I was in the same class as Wayne throughout my Talladega school years and my mother, who taught math classes at Dixon and Mrs. Johnson were best friends. She was an excellent dietician, whose specialty was a 4th serving of her banana pudding, which we devoured with gusto. As she grew older and moved into her new home on Logan Martin Lake, she loved when adults whom she fed in the 7th and 8th grades would call her or send greeting cards to her or potted plants which she put on her porch at the lake--- but most of all she loved visits from these same people.
She was the Guest of Honor during one of our high school reunions, and afterward she told me that she could not recognize the faces of all of the former THS students at the reunion, BUT she knew everyone's maiden name. Her mind never failed her as she was as sharp as a tack.
Mrs. Johnson failed in her attempt to live to be 100 years old, but she is now in a far better place as she now meets with her Lord is Heaven and never has to again endure the pain and suffering from her broken bones from falls around her house. She was a one of a kind. I send my sympathy and condolences to the Johnson family as she is now gone from this earth but is now where she wanted to be. All of us loved her and we will miss her also.

Grandmother loved wild birds of all types. She kept pictures and figurines, of beautiful North American wild birds throughout the house. She kept beautiful birds around the house with feeders. We used to sit by her bathroom window on Sunday mornings while getting ready for church, and name all the different birds that were feeding on the feeder outside the window. Beautiful Red birds, Finches, Sparrows, Blue Jays, Dove, Robins, and always a pesky squirrel.
She would sit for hours on her favorite swing on the front screened in porch and do the daily crossword puzzle whilst listening to the birds. I remember laying on the swing and watching her. She would sometimes stop and listen to a certain bird. Then she always looked down at me and smiled.
This picture of Red birds was behind a picture she had sent us. This used to be hanging above the headboard over her bed. She had used the frame for the picture of her with Kelsey and Samantha. I found it when I was taking pictures to post on here. “Treasures!” This is what my Grandmother would say any time little surprises were found.

Emily Elizabeth Batts Johnson, My Grandmother, was a Great Woman.
She sacrificed her happiness all her life to help others. She always cared for others, from starving herself in Tennessee to make sure my father Stanley Wayne Johnson was fed while my Grandaddy was at War, to allowing total strangers down on their luck to live in her house all the way to the end of her days. She spent her life teaching, feeding, caring, and sharing the Love of Jesus Christ to all she ever came in contact with. Many were lead to the Lord through her. Praise Jesus Christ!!
There are so many times that she wiped the tears from my eyes and loved me when the world was hard. She was good at creating distractions to help life be brighter. From fly fishing early in the summer mornings, to catching giant catfish, to dressing up and going shopping, she always knew how to cheer me up. Like me, there are many others she touched in Talladega and beyond this great state and even across our borders.
I am forever in awe of the wonderful person she was. Because of Emily Elizabeth Batts Johnson, I am the father and husband I am today. May she have the happiness that the Bible promised her that once again she see her one true love Leland Stanley Johnson, My Grandfather. I hope that they may embrace and never be separated again.
I thank all of you that have been a part of my family’s life.
God bless each and every one of you.
Christopher Nathan Johnson
