Obituary of Allene C. Ponder

Talladega – Allene C. Ponder, 96, was born October 22, 1924 in Talladega, Alabama and passed away in her sleep on January 15, 2021. Funeral service for Mrs. Ponder will be Sunday, January 17, 2021 at Usrey Funeral Home at 2:00 pm with Josh Henderson officiating. Family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Sunday. Interment will be at Pine Hill Memorial Park. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church for 58 years, sang in and directed the choir, and taught in Children’s Sunday School. She was retired from Sears after 25 years. She loved her family and her church very much. Allene is survived by her children, Sydney (Jimmy) Crowell, Melvyn (Elaine) Ponder, Charles Ponder, Phillip Ponder; seven grandchildren, Jeremy Ponder, Shelley Ash, Jon Paul Ponder, Kristie Ponder, Catherine Crowell, Emily Owens, Heather Ponder; seventeen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Duffie Costner; husband, Hubert Ponder; brother, James Costner; sister, Florence Montgomery; twin sister, Imogene Harris; grandson, Brian Ponder; daughters-in-law, Candy Sue Cummings Ponder and Teresa Mizzell Ponder. Pallbearers will be hers sons, Melvyn Ponder, Charles Ponder, Phillip Ponder; grandsons, Jeremy Ponder, Jon Paul Ponder, and Richard Ash.
