Obituary of Martha Lee Massey

Please share a memory of Martha to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On December 23, 2020 our sweet "Tootsie" died peacefully at home surrounded by her family. She was born June 6th, 1934. Tootsie loved life and she loved her family and friends. Her favorite past-time was spending beautiful sunny days outside working in her yard, which was her grandmother's old home place, the place she grew up as a child, and tending to her cat babies- Oscar De La Renta, Jasmine, Marley and Lacy. She loved sitting on her front porch and spending time inside coloring beautiful pictures and lazy afternoons with her daughter watching TV and Alabama football. She loved poetry and reading, and watching the squirrels play in the trees. She also loved the beautiful birds that would visit. Her absolute favorites were the gorgeous hummingbirds that visited her flower gardens each year. She had a servant's heart, and she loved the Lord. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends, but we know she was welcomed at heaven's gate by those who passed before her including her great-grandson Jhase, whom she tended to and raised as her own. What a Grand Reunion Day it was! She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Lonie Daffron; her mother Ruth Bell Campbell; her brothers Elmer Louis Fisher and Billy Ray Alverson; and her beloved great-grandson Dylan Jhase Thompson. She leaves behind a daughter, Belinda Alverson Ponder; grandchildren Aprille Thompson and Tommy Thompson; great-grandchildren A.J. (Brittany) Bunt and Tanner (Brandi) Thompson; great-great-grandchildren Landyn and Logan Bunt; and a host of other family and friends in the Ragland community. Pallbearers will be: Tommy Thompson, AJ Bunt, Tanner Thompson, Terry Daffron, Christopher Daffron, and Orlando Sepeda, Honorary Pall Bearers are: Landyn Bunt, and Logan Bunt The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, December 26, 2020 at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Ives Harris officiating. Interment will follow at Box Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm at the church. Condolences may be offered online at usreyfuneralhome.com. Usrey Funeral Home, Pell City, is in charge of arrangements.
