Mrs. Christine Fambrough Hawkins, 86, of Ragland, Alabama passed away, December 5, 2020 in Hoover, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-four years, George L. Hawkins; parents, Marvin and Leola Fambrough; brothers, Fred Fambrough, Talmadge Fambrough, and Pete Fambrough; sisters, Mary Fambrough, Kathleen Davis, June McEwen, Florence Griffith, and Margaret Daffron. Mrs. Hawkins is survived by her son, Steve Hawkins (Michele) of Eufaula; daughters, Christy Mann (Bill) of Helena; Carrie Gulledge (Natalie) of Pell City; and many loving grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and Oliver, the family dog. Mrs. Hawkins was born in Trussville, Alabama to Marvin and Leola Fambrough on December 19, 1933. She graduated from Ragland School in 1952. After her high school commencement, she attended The University of Alabama and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education in 1956. With her love for teaching and learning, Mrs. Hawkins began her teaching career in Tampa, Florida in 1957 and procured her Master’s Degree from The University of South Florida shortly thereafter. She traded her title of teacher for the title of mother and homemaker in 1967. Mrs. Hawkins enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, the study of history, gardening, boating, water sports, deep sea fishing, playing the piano, genealogy, and numerous church activities. She held the office of Past Worthy Matron Order of Eastern Star and enjoyed her membership in The Fambrough Family Society and Hardin’s Chapel Bible Church in Ragland. Mrs. Hawkins will be interred Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at 11 a.m., in a graveside service at Hardin’s Chapel Bible Church in Ragland, Alabama. Rev. Douglas Ford will officiate and Usrey Funeral Home in Pell City will be in charge of arrangements. In our best effort to mitigate further COVID 19 spread, face coverings and social distancing protocols will be required for all attendees.
