Elizabeth Ann Barker Cheeks, 60, of Talladega passed away on November 20, 2020 at Citizens Brookwood Baptist Medical Center. Beth was well known in the Talladega community as she served as Talladega City Clerk for many years before being appointed as City Manager of Talladega in September 2018. Beth was born in St. Paul, Minnesota January 30, 1960 as the third of six children born to Richard M. Barker and Barbara Ann Hibbs. She attended public school in both Virginia and Minnesota and graduated from Alexander Ramsey High School in Roseville, MN. She received her B.A. degree in English from Virginia Tech, and her Masters in Library Science from the University of Alabama. She also worked at the Alabama School for the Deaf and Blind for several years before her appointment as Talladega City Clerk. Beth was a loving and patient daughter, sister, wife, mother and aunt who will be deeply missed by all who knew her and were touched by her generous nature and kind spirit. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Dwight Cheeks of Prattville, AL. She is survived by her son, Andrew; her two sisters, Catherine L. Barker of Blacksburg, VA and Ruth Barker Long of Nashville, TN; her three brothers, David M. Barker of Ottawa, Canada; John H. Barker of Roanoke; VA, Paul R. Barker of Pittsburgh, PA; and several nieces and nephews. Her family will receive Friends from 5:00pm to 8:00pm Tuesday November 24, 2020 at Usrey Funeral Home Chapel in Talladega. In Lieu of flowers Memorials can be made to Habitat for Humanity P.O.box 2595 Sylacauga, Al.
