Obituary of Rickey Wayne Nixon

Rickey Wayne “Rick” Nixon, 71 passed away September 18, 2020. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday September 22, 2020 at Usrey Funeral Home Chapel Talladega, with burial following in Pine Hill Memorial Park. His family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm Monday at the funeral home. Officiating the service will be Dr Stan Jett, State F.O.P. Chaplin Adolph South, Rev. Bob Jernigan and Scoutmaster Wes Patterson. He was preceded in death by his parents Melvin and Annie Jo Duncan Nixon and a brother Jeff Nixon. Rick is survived by his wife Selma Nixon, daughters Sue Harris, Teresa (Mike) Lackey, sons Johnny Nixon, Kevin and Jayden Medders, grandchildren Johnathan Jones, Patrick (Amber) Jones, Kelsey (Brandon) Jones, Ashley (Eddy) Bounds, Matthew (Annie) Lackey, Hali and Megan Nixon, ten great-grandchildren, brothers Terry (Beverly) Nixon, Randy (Susan) Nixon, Paul Nixon, sister Velda (Larry) Gobble and sister-in-law Jean Nixon. Rick received a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice degree from Jacksonville State University. Rick began his career in law enforcement in Piedmont and later joined Talladega Police Department. He also served with the Talladega County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Talladega. Rick served as the City of Talladega Municipal Court Clerk and Magistrate. He was a longtime and devoted member and officer of F.O.P. Racing City Lodge #26, where he also served as a Trustee for the Alabama State Fraternal Order of Police. Rick was a certified Paramedic and Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop #130. Pallbearers will be Ron Smith, Ron Guy, Don Stephens, Andy Yarbrough, Al Findley, Rickey Simpson, Niki Pitts, Demarco Willis and Alan Watson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Talladega County Sheriff’s Office, F.C.I. Talladega, Talladega Police Department and Scoutmaster Wes Patterson and Boy Scout Troop #130. Usrey funeral Home Talladega will direct service.
