Obituary of Houston Rudolph Dennis

Houston Rudolph Dennis age 94 who resided in Talladega, Alabama, passed away on June 23, 2014. Funeral service for Mr. Dennis will be 2:00pm, Thursday, June 26, 2014
at First Baptist Church with Dr. Dennis Jones officiating. Visitation will be from 12:30- 2:00 at the church. Graveside service will follow at Pine Hill Memorial Park in Talladega.
Mr. Dennis was born August 26, 1919 in Deatsville, Alabama. A 1941 graduate of the University of Alabama, he received a degree in accounting. As owner of Dennis Furniture Company, he was in business for 54 years. He was an avid Alabama Football fan all his life and enjoyed traveling at home and abroad. Relationships with family and friends brought him great joy.
He was an active member of the community serving as president of the Greater Talladega Area Chamber of Commerce, chairman of president of the Kiwanis Club, chairman of the North Talladega United Way, member of Citizens Hospital Board of Trustees, commissioner of Talladega Housing Authority, president of the North Talladega County Chapter of the University of Alabama National Alumni Association and vice president of the Alumni Association's District V, member of the Board of Directors of First Federal of the South, at one time serving as vice chairman. He received the Ala-Blind Award for his outstanding service to blind people.
Actively involved as a member of First Baptist Church, he served as a member of the Board of Deacons and as chairman, Superintendent of the Sunday school and sang in the choir for over 50 years.
Mr. Dennis was preceded in death by his wife Eva Margaret Dennis and his grandson William Andrew Booth. He is survived by sons Larry Dennis and wife Pam of Birmingham AL, Danny Dennis of Talladega, AL, Catherine Wyker and husband Bill of of Decatur AL, and Ann Booth and husband Keith of Houston, Texas; grandchildren Elizabeth Dennis, Will, Adam and Ben Wyker, Margaret and Anna Booth.
Pallbearers will be Will Wyker, Adam Wyker, Ben Wyker, Allen Dennis, Richard Dennis, and David Dennis. Honorary pallbearers will be Hubert Hubbard Sunday School Class.
