I am Milton's first cousin -- our mothers were sisters -- and I grew up near him in the country outside Hattiesburg, MS. He was so good-looking as a young man that I carried his picture in my wallet! When he left the state to go to medical school, we saw very little of each other but kept in touch through family members.
Milton Jr. (as we called him) had a fascinating Army experience. He wrote me a long letter about it several years ago, talking about when he was a medical lab technician and his group of GI's were captured and searched by the Nazis in 1943. Fortunately, as he wrote," God was good to us -- our captivity was less than 24 hours."
Our last contact was on the phone about a year ago, and when I tried to call him today I was told the number had been disconnected. Then I searched for him online and found his obituary.
He was a lovely man and I am so sorry we didn't get to spend more time together.
