Obituary of Doris Mezick Duke
Talladega – Doris Mezick Duke, 81, passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2019. Funeral service for Mrs. Duke will be on Saturday, April 20, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Usrey Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Saturday from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. Interment will be at Pine Hill Memorial Park.
Mrs. Doris worked in retail for more than 40 years in Talladega. She was “Grandma Duke” to all of the neighborhood kids and was loved by so many people. Special thanks to Amedisys Hospice and especially to her “baby” Ashley Marie Goggins, RN, who loved and cared for her in her final days.
She is survived by her brothers, Roger Mezick, Ledford Mezick, Jimmy Mezick, and Donald Mezick; sisters, Peggy “Penny” Mezick and Mary Ann Morris; step children, Rodney Duke (Debbie), Bill Duke (Lesia), and Cynthia Woodall (Randy); special children, William and Sissy Lett, and Neal Dearman; Step grandchildren and special grandchildren, Carrie Harkins, April Duke Cobb, Nicole Brown, Justin Duke, Wes Duke, Matthew Duke, Brandy Dean (T.J), Kandice Najere, Destiny Pepper (Dewain), Joshua Woodall (Brooklyn Dawley), Landon Woodall (Heather Bramlett), Zachery Woodall (Brandy), Waylon Lett, Riana Rowan, Wade Lett, Kristen Crumb, Wyatt Lett, Alyssia Smith, Madison “Bitty” Lett, Nicole Dearman (Brandon Burrows), Valerie Cooper, Bradley Cooper, Emma Smith, and Trevor Smith; 12 great grandchildren; best friend, Jane Rollins. She is preceded in death by her husband, Willie D. Duke; parents, Olen and Mildred Mezick; sisters, Joyce Price and Janice Mozzell Raspberry. Pallbearers will be Wyatt Lett, Wade Lett, Waylon Lett, Phelix “Duke” Evans, Austin Smith, Neal Dearman, Bill Duke, and Rodney Duke.
