Obituary of James Arnold Smelley

James Arnold Smelley, 88, passed away May 29, 2014. Funeral services will be, Saturday May 31, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Usrey Funeral Home Chapel of Talladega. His family will receive friends Saturday from 12:00- 2:00 at the funeral home. Rev. Gary Plummer, Rev. Danny Cotton and Fred Gant will officiate and burial will be in Midway Memory Gardens. He was an active member of his church Ironaton Baptist. He had made thirty trips with Carpenter’s For Christ out of Anniston. He was retired from Bell South with 35 years as a construction supervisor. He also served in the Navy during WWII. He is survived by his wife Myna of fifty two years, four sons, Butch Smelley, Wayne Faulkner, Randall Faulkner and David Smelley, four daughters, Cille Powers, Opal Fuller, Cheryl Kirkland and Becky Mabrey, 7 sisters and one brother, 21 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends. Pallbearers will be Jim Lackey, Steve Weldon, James Nixon, David Jennings, Jim Germany, and Dorman Hughston. Honorary pallbearers will be Carpenter’s For Christ, Joe Mitchell, David Chandler, Gene Suttle, Bobby Curlee and Jimmy Thomas.
