Obituary of Lura Mae Champion Shaddix
Talladega: Lura Mae Champion Shaddix, 88 of Talladega passed away December 24, 2018 at her home. Her funeral service will be 2:00pm, Saturday, December 29, 2018 at Usrey Funeral Home with Joe Daniel officiating. Her family will receive friends at Usrey Funeral Home Saturday from 1:00 – 2:00pm. She was preceded in death by her parents Newt and Lois Mae Champion, husband, William E. Shaddix; sister, Doyal Cooper and brother, Homer Champion.
Mrs. Shaddix was born on May 2, 1930, she loved gardening, canning, quilting, mowing the lawn and was a self-educated master gardener that watched over her flower beds. She was the wife of a career sailor and lived all over the country, up and down the east and west coasts. She never met a stranger and was always ready to help anyone in need.
Mrs. Shaddix was a native of Shelby County, lived most of her life in Talladega and a member of Alliance Christian Missionary Church. She is survived by her daughter Cathy Gambrell (Rick); son, Kenneth Shaddix (Sharon); brother, Roy Champion; grandsons, Justin Martin, Scott Shaddix, Clint Shaddix and Cheryl Moore; 10 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Clint Shaddix, Scott Shaddix, Shane Ferguson, Dave Champion, Patrick Moore and Luke Jennings. Honorary pallbearers will be Roger Champion, Mike Champion and Justin Martin.
