Obituary of Clarence Douglas "Bo" Alverson

Clarence Douglas (Bo) Alverson, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully at home on October 9, 2018 and now rests in the arms of his Savior. He will be remembered for his faith, his quiet gentle spirit, his love for his family, his humility, and unending patience. He was born on September 30, 1927 and in his 91 years he was a blessing to his family, friends, and all who knew him. He graduated Pell City High School in 1945. In 1951 he married the love of his life, Annie Pearl Martin and together they raised three children and shared life for a wonderful 67 years. He served his country in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany for two years. Upon his return, he began his career at Anniston Army Depot and retired in 1982 as manager of the Small Arms Shop. After retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren attending countless ballgames and performances. He enjoyed hunting, bee-keeping, gardening, traveling, and serving in his church where he was a deacon for many years. He was a member of Ben M. Jacobs Masonic Lodge 643 and he was involved in the community of Wattsville by serving on the Water Board. He was a founding member of the Pope’s Chapel Cemetery Association and their first Secretary-Treasurer.

He was preceded in death by his parents Gertrude and Hobson Alverson, and his sister, Pat Pope. He is survived by his devoted wife, Annie Pearl Martin Alverson, his daughter Debra Ann Landry and her husband Ron of Leeds, AL, his two sons, James Douglas Alverson of Pell City, AL, and Jeffrey Martin Alverson and his wife Laura of Sanford, NC; eight grandchildren: Michael Landry and wife Jody of Columbus, IN, Kate Gaston and husband David of Branford, CT, Martin Landry and wife Janice of New York, NY, Shannon Alverson of Ragland, AL, Jamie DeFreese and husband Scott of Cook Springs, AL, Christy Bernadot of Swanville, MN, James Alverson and wife Sarah of Raleigh, NC, Carol Alverson of Morrisville, NC, 14 great-grandchildren, and several cherished nieces and nephews; a brother, Clarence Vinson and wife Frances of Anniston, AL and a sister, Mary Dismukes of Ocean Springs, MS.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 11th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Usrey Funeral Home in Pell City, AL. A funeral service will be held Friday, October 12th at 2:00 p.m. at Pope’s Chapel Community Church, 1218 Pope’s Chapel Rd, Ragland, AL 35131. He will lie in state at the church from 1:00-2:00 prior to the service
