Obituary of William Daniel "Danny" Shaddix, Jr.
William Daniel Shaddix, Jr. was born on May 14, 1955. He passed away on August 11, 2018 at the VA Hospital in Birmingham.
Danny, as he was known to most people, was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He grew up in Wadley, AL with his siblings Sherri Shaddix, Tammi Shaddix and Jamie Shaddix. His parents were William Daniel Shaddix (Dan) and Adelaide Wood Shaddix. He joined the Army after high school and continued into the National Guard Reserves serving a total of 18 years.
Danny met the love of his life while still in high school but they didn’t marry until after he discharged from the Army. Danny and Sharon Brooks Shaddix were married on May 13, 1977 which was actually Friday the 13th! They were married for 41 years with 2 children, Misha (Genia) and Daniel (Malea). They raised their children in Ragland, AL. Danny moved to Ragland in 1979 to run the woodyard owned by his Dad’s company, Shaddix Pulpwood Company. Years later, he purchased it naming it Ragland Timber Company. He was a shrewd business man. He believed in a firm handshake to make a deal and he was a man of his word.
He was a very active member of the community in Ragland. He was a member of Hardin’s Chapel Bible Church. He loved Ragland High School and was proud to support the multiple sports programs even when his children weren’t active participants. He loved the time he spent over the PA system as an announcer for the Ragland Purple Devils or Mean Machines as he called them with comments like “laundry on the field” or “3rd down and a half acre.”
Danny never met a stranger. When you talked with him you would likely get a joke or story with a well delivered punchline. He was the best story teller! He loved to give people nicknames and that’s what he referred to you as whether you liked it or not.
10 years ago when his first granddaughter was born he gained the most precious title of BB. (His version of grandfather) He was blessed with 4 beautiful granddaughters who adored him, Zoë, Temperance, Memory and Zannie Adelaide.
The lives of his family, friends and church will forever have a void. No more sweet phone calls “I just called to say I love you. Have a wonderful day.” No more letters or cards in the mailbox and no more laughter from a man that loved to laugh, cut up,tell jokes and aggravate. We will always remember those times with you in our hearts.
Roll Tide Daddy/BB! We love and miss you but will see you soon! Save us a spot on your street!
