Obituary of Ruth Bates New

Ruth Bates New, 89, of Talladega passed away Sunday, May 20, 2018. Her funeral service will be 4:00 pm, Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at Usrey Funeral Home with Charlie Bolt officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Hill Memorial Park. The family will recieve friends Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Usrey Funeral Home and will lie in state Tuesday for one hour prior to services.

Mrs. New was Pentecostal by faith and worked in the mills her whole life. She loved the Lord and was a firm believer in her Faith. She always talked to her grandchildren about Jesus and how great he is. She loved to quilt with her sisters during free time. She loved watching Alabama football, Tiger Woods play golf, and Jeff Gordon race. She loved listening to southern gospel music. Her favorite country music singer was Conway Twitty. She loved her family and friends more than anything. She was so full of life and was always ready for an adventure.

Ruth was preceded in death by her son, Roy H. New and grandson, Gregory D. Wilkerson.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda New Stewart; Arthur "Ike" New (Beth); grandchildren, Caryn Hurst (Michael), Kim Williams (Gary), William "Bubba" New (Karen), Sherry New Walker (David), Dawn New Jennings (Scott), Carrie New, Brandon New (Caroline), Christian New, Shane New, Tina New, and a host of great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Josh Wilkerson, Brady New, Nicholas New, Lucas Jennings, Scott Jennings and Chance Hurst.

Honorary pallbearers are William "Bubba" New and Michael Hurst.

Usrey Funeral Home of Talladega is directing the services.
