Obituary of Peggy Sue Bates
Peggy S. Bates, age 84, entered into Heaven on October 21st, 2017 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
Peggy was born March 30, 1933 in Pyriton, Alabama to James & Brady (Watts) Owens. She married Marion “Shorty” Bates in March of 1954 and they moved to Gary, Indiana for new adventures. There she worked at many things and drove a school bus for Lake County for 30 years but her real joy was cooking and caring for her husband, children and later grandchild, family and friends.
She is survived by daughter, Vickie (Robert) Petersen of Spokane, WA.; son, Marion Rick (Sandy) Bates of Portage, In.; six grandchildren, Tonya, Jason, Daniel (Norma), Brittany Bates, Rhiannon, Jacqueline Petersen and 13 great grandchildren; sister, Ruby Stasko of Lincoln, Al.; brother, Rev. Bobby (Judy) Owens of Anniston, AL.; brother-in-law, Alton (Pat) Bates; sister-in-laws, Sarah (Cramer) Dearman, Dot, Kay, Christine Bates and Vicki Owens. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 yrs, Shorty Bates; her parents, James & Brady Owens; two sons, Michael Owens, Mickie Bates and one brother, Jimmy Owens.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 am, Friday, October 27, 2017 at Usrey Funeral Home in Talladega. Burial will follow at Pine Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Usrey Funeral Home prior to service beginning at 10:00 am.
