~~Cary Hugh Ward, 67, of Ragland, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 28, 2017, surrounded by his family.  He was the husband of Kelly (Wells) Ward with whom he shared many years of loving marriage. Born in Walker County, he was the son of the late Rose (Noles) Ward and Billy Ward.  Cary was a devoted Father to daughter Jennifer Gaston (Marty) and sons, Michael Ward and Brandon Trammell. Cary delighted in the love of his Granddaughters Bailey Ward and Kellanee Gaston.  Cary was the brother of Mark (Paula) Ward and uncle to niece Fallyn Ward, and nephew Tyler Ward (Tifiany), also great-nephews John Wyatt Ward and James Henry Cates. Cary loved being with his family and always dedicating his time to his children and grandchildren. He was an individual of strong moral character and was always willing to help anyone he could. He was a member of New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church in Ragland. He will be remembered by his family, his church family, his law enforcement family, and his many friends.
Cary served his country in the U.S. Navy and made his life time career in law enforcement.  He served as Captain at Talladega Police Dept. and Chief of Police at Morris Police Dept. He was a board member of ROCIC. He was a past president of the Fraternal Order of Police and past president of St. Clair and East Central Alabama chapters of the Police Benevolent Association.  He served as an investigator with the Pell City Police Dept. and the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office.  He was currently serving with the Ragland Police Dept.
There will be a private visitation for the family from 4:00 to 5:00 PM and they will receive guests from 5:00 – 8:00 PM on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at Usrey Funeral Home in Pell City.  There will also be a visitation on Sunday, October 1, 2017, from 12:00 to 2:00 PM at the funeral home with the funeral service immediately following at 2:00 PM.  Burial will take place at St. Clair Memorial Gardens, directly across from the funeral home.  The family invites everyone to join them afterwards for a meal at Ragland United Methodist Church.
Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Lakeside Hospice, Ragland United Methodist Church, or New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church.
