Obituary of John Lockee Gilbert, Sr.

John Lockee Gilbert, Sr., 92, died Friday, September 8, 2017 at Brookwood Baptist Health System. John was born June 8, 1925 in Lincolnton, NC, the youngest son of Addie and Marshall Gilbert. His brother Hubert Gilbert and sisters Jewell and Sudie Gilbert all preceeded him in death. He was married to Katerine Gilbert Jacobs for 32 years and Melba Caldwell Gilbert for 22 years. Both are deceased.

John served in the U.S. Army in WWII as a sergeant based in New Guinea. He began his career in patternmaking and retired as a superintendent in several foundries in Georgia and Alabama. He enjoyed construction, remodeling houses and was proficient in woodworking. His hobby was repairing and refinishing antique furniture.

He is survived by his sons John (Dorothy) Gilbert Jr., Terry (Beth) Gilbert, Steve Allison, daughter Sally Clark (Brett), grandchildren, Joel (Ally) Gilbert, Gerry (Nicole) Gilbert, Katie (Ryan) Grace, Connor Allison, Andrew Abele, Bradford Abele, seven great-grandchildren, Avery, Grayson, Harper, Reagan, Brooks, Tucker and Olivia-Kate.

The family will receive friends Monday, September 11, 2017, from 9:00 to 10:00 am at Usrey Funeral Home in Talladega, AL with graveside services at 10:30 am at Hepzibah Baptist Church Cemetery ,also in Talladega.
