Obituary of Maudine Dison Elliott
Maudine Dison Elliott “Dean”, 92 passed away Thursday, July 6, 2017 at Brookwood Citizens Hospital in Talladega.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Saturday, July 8, 2017 at Usrey Funeral Home Chapel in Talladega with visitation from 12:30 to 2:00pm. Burial will follow at Pine Hill Memorial Park with Rev. Robert Klotz officiating.
Dean was born in Clay County, AL on August 11, 1924. She attended Clay County High School and achieved perfect attendance for 12 years of school and graduated Salutatorian.
Upon graduation, Dean supported our WWII troops by working at Brecon Loading Company where she received the Safety Ace Award and was nationally recognized on National Safety News, Sept. 1943 magazine and the radio program “Men, Machines and Victory” on August 24, 1943.
She wed her childhood sweetheart P.L. Elliott Sept. 22, 1945 in Clay County. She committed her time to her family and their school activities; active PTA, Brownie and Girl Scout Leader.
Active member of First Baptist Church where she served as Sunday school teacher for 4 year olds, WMU President, and President of her Sunday school class.
Dean loved spending time with her family. She loved working in her flower beds and shared her knowledge and love of gardening with her friends and family. Being a child during the depression, she loved antiques and cherished all her possessions.
Dean is preceded in death by her parents Pierce and Irene Dison, brothers Buford and Clyde Dison, sisters Ruth Rowe, Gertrude Golden, and Adelle Williams.
She is survived by her brother Gordon Dison of Huntsville, daughter Linda Nelson (Crawford), son Michael P. Elliott (Sally) of Anniston, grandchildren Jill Nelson Durden (Mark), Lucy Nelson Hamilton (Jack), Brad Nelson (Molly), Chad Elliot (Molly), great-grandchildren Sophie Hamilton, Jackson Hamilton, Dison Durden and Graham Nelson.
Pallbearers will be Mark Durden, Jack Hamilton, Brad Nelson, Chad Elliott, Buford Golden, and Richard Williams.
Honorary pallbearers are Joe Mitchell, Ron Elliott, Billy McGinnish and Wayne Sherbert.
The family would like to give thanks to Marilyn Dates for her loving support, friendship, and caregiving during the past years. We also appreciate Stacy Colley, the staff at Brookwood Citizens Hospital and their hospice care.
