Obituary of James Kenneth "Kent" St. John
~JAMES KENNETH "KENT" ST. JOHN, 48, of Pell City,
passed away Sunday, July 2, 2017.
Kent was born in Pell City on March 21, 1969
and was a lifelong resident of the area. He was a
1987 graduate of Pell City High School where he
was a member of their Varsity Baseball team. He
wed Jennifer Joy Rhoden on June 24, 1989 and they
attended the First Baptist Church of Pell City.
Kent spent his life building the family
business, Dry Creek Farms, into a nationally
renowned producer of show quality Hereford Cattle.
He was a Lifetime Member of the Alabama
Cattlemen’s Association and was a Past President of
the St. Clair County Chapter. He worked as a Soil
Conservation Technician in St. Clair & Jefferson
Counties for the United States Department of
Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Services.
Kent was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, James Locke Hayes and Betty
Jo Hayes of Pell City; his paternal grandparents, Herbert St. John and Martha Sue St. John of
Ragland, and his niece, Lauren Ashley (Troha) Wilkerson of Auburn. Surviving are his
parents, Stephen Lee St. John and Mary Joyce St. John of Pell City; his wife, Jennifer Joy St.
John and their sons, Kenton Locke St. John and Carter Lee St. John of Pell City; sister Shelley
(Doyle) Gallups of Pell City; nephews, Colton Stewart Gallups of Pell City, Theron Lee Pope
of Fredericksburg, VA and Joshua Adam Stephens of Lakewood Ranch, FL; Nieces Molly Pope
(Rodney) Aldridge of Gastonia, NC, Emily Stephens (Matt) Drinkard of Thomasville and
Taylor Leigh (Logan) McCullough of Selma.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at Usrey
Funeral Home, 21271 U.S. Highway 231, Pell City, Alabama 35125. A Memorial Service will
follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at St. Clair Memorial Gardens after the Memorial Service.
The Pallbearers are Tom Boatman, Dr. Ken McMillan, Cortez O'Neal, Matthew Smith, Judge Mike Bowling, and Dylan Wiley. Honorary Pallbearers are Phillip Brewer, Rod Goode, Kent Sanford, Doyle Gallups, Ricky St. John, Rodney St. John, and Mike St. John.
