Obituary of Jason Stuart Smith

Jason Stuart “Newt” Smith, age 42, passed away March 9, 2017. His family will receive friends Saturday, March 11, 2017 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at Usrey Funeral Home in Talladega. The funeral will be held Sunday, March 12, 2017, 2:00 pm at Usrey Funeral Home with Father Ben Turnage will officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. “Newt” was a native and lifelong resident of Talladega. He was a 1998 graduate of Auburn University and a member of Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity. He was owner/operator of Smith Insurance Agency, member of Masonic Lodge 261, St. Peter’s Episcopal Church and a member of the George Straight Fan Club. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Burl and Pauline McCrary and Lofton and Viola Smith. He is survived by his sons Griffin and Garrett Smith, parents James “Smutt” and Beverly Smith, sister Kim Blanton (Jeff), nephew Austin Blanton, niece Bailey Blanton, former wife Heather Griffin Stewart, numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Pallbearers will be Brandon Bartee, Allen Jacobs, Jay Griffin, Jeff Blanton, Chad Woodruff, Todd Langston, Patrick Kane, and Mike Perry. Honorary pallbearers will be Tony Haynes, Jeff Clevenger, Jack Highfield, Masonic Lodge 261, and his Auburn AGR Fraternity Brothers.
