She was an avid reader and enjoyed being outside and gardening. She was an active member of New Hopewell Baptist Church, where she was known for her signature coconut cake. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and her great-grandson Will was the great joy of her last two years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Milton and Balma Rutledge Bowlin, brothers Jimmy, John and Mack Bowlin, her husband, Fred Ross Phillips, and by her son-in-law, Douglas Keith.
