Obituary of Naomi Sanford Wilson

Mrs. Naomi Sanford (Myers) Wilson, 86, of Pell City, Alabama passed away on November 20, 2016. Mrs. Wilson was first and foremost a dedicated Christian, having been an active member of Roebuck Park Baptist Church for many years. Later, after moving to St. Clair County, she joined New Lebanon Baptist and is currently a member of Eden Westside Baptist Church. Mrs. Wilson was a native of Fayette, Alabama. She was a graduate of Florence State Teacher’s College (The University of North Alabama) and later received her Master’s Degree at The University of Alabama at Birmingham. Mrs. Wilson taught school for many years in the Birmingham School System, with most of that time at North Roebuck Elementary and Smith Elementary Schools. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Preston Wilson; parents C. Olin and Georgie Romans Sanford; sisters Olene Cresswell and Mary Helen Houle; and by a brother, Cecil W. Sanford. Mrs. Wilson is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Garland Sanford and Tammy Thackerson Brock; granddaughter, Hailey Alise Brock; brother Maurice (Frances) Sanford; and by several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at Usrey Funeral Home in Pell City with Rev. Wayne Arnold, Richard A. Cresswell, and Wallace Edgar Cresswell officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to service time at the funeral home. A private graveside service will follow at Oak Grove Methodist Cemetery in Stough, Alabama. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Heartfelt appreciation is given to her extended family, Betty Chandler, Charity Reynolds, Shirley Robinson, Charlotte Sherrer, Mikal Kile, Tangie Booker, Peggy Lay Field, Judy Thompson, and her friend and neighbor, Mrs. Betty Welch. The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Billy Graham Ministies at 1 Billy Graham Parkway, Charotte, North Carolina 28201.
