Obituary of Barbara Ann Young (Jones)

Barbara Ann Young (Jones) February 4, 1943 – August 9, 2016 Barbara Ann Young (Jones), age 73 of Birmingham/Pell City, Alabama went home to be with her Lord on August 9, 2016. Barbara died peacefully at home surrounded by loving family and friends. Barbara was born in Birmingham, Alabama. She graduated from Phillips High School in 1961 and married in 1962. After her children were born, Barbara invested in her children’s future as a stay-at-home mom during their formative years. Barbara had a servant’s heart and always befriended “the least of these”. She served many years as an activity director at several local nursing facilities and was especially talented in relating to dementia patients. Barbara cared deeply for others in her family, at work, and in her community. After she had a decline in health, she continued to care for others through prayers, cards, and phone calls until a few weeks prior to her death. Barbara was preceded in death by her mother, Flora Marie Young and father, F.L. Young. She was an amazing Mom and Granny to her family which includes her daughter, Cristy Daffron (Rod); grandchildren Angela Hale (Matt), Duane Kennedy, and Daniel Kennedy; great-grandchildren Parker Kennedy and Kason Spann; and by her daughter, Jody Evans (Joe Bob), grandchildren Justin Evans and Brooke Starling (Will). She is also survived by her sister, Frances Burnette, her cousin, Judy McClellan, and by a special group of loving, life-long friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, August 12, 2016 at Usrey Funeral Home, Pell City. Interment will follow at St. Clair Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday from 1:00 – 3:00 PM at the funeral home.
