Obituary of Linda Ruth Deason Harkins

Please share a memory of Linda to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
A memorial of Linda's life will be held on Sunday, July 31, 2016 at The First Baptist Church of Talladega. The family will be receiving visitors at 1:00 pm before the service begins at 1:30 pm. Mrs. Harkins was preceded in death by her loving husband, James Waymon Harkins, her parents Gus and Ruth Deason as well as two brothers Ricky and Johnny Deason. After graduating from AIDB and marrying Waymon, her high school sweetheart, they sought out a new life in Birmingham where they were blessed with two wonderful sons, Jerry and Dennis. Linda also began a 25 year career with BTNB Bank which soon became SouthTrust Bank. It was only when her grown sons left the nest that both Linda and Waymon retired from their Birmingham jobs to accept Dorm Supervisor positions at the Alma Mater where they fell in love. Linda absolutely adored helping to raise "her girls" since she never had a daughter of her own. If you were to ask any of them, they would mention their love for her as well as how funny she was. She remained friends with many of them up until her death. Linda was a long time member of Oxford Deaf Church as well as The First Baptist Church of Talladega - changing churches only to follow her favorite pastor, Rev. Ricky Milford. Linda is survived by her brother, George Deason (wife - Debra). Also by her two sons, Jerry Wayne Harkins (wife - Paige Kile Harkins) and Dennis Alan Harkins. Also by two Grandsons, Joshua Kile Harkins and Jacob Waymon Harkins.
