Obituary of Louis Nolan Willoughby

Louis Nolan Willoughby, 80 of Talladega was born December 13, 1935 passed away June 4, 2016. Funeral services will be held 1:00pm Wednesday June 8, 2016 at Central Baptist Church, his family will receive friends at Church from 12:00 – 1:00 pm Wednesday, burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Louis was a native of Talladega, graduating from Talladega High School in 1954. After graduation Louis enlisted in the United States Air Force, training as an aircraft mechanic. He served for three years during the Korean Conflict and was based in northern Africa. Louis was fond of telling people he was member of Central Baptist Church longer than he had been alive. His mother, Francis (Wren) Holt Willoughby, was a member of the church while pregnant with him. Louis attended Central Baptist through his youth. After being discharged from the Air Force, Louis attended Tampa University for three years. He then returned to Talladega in late 1960 and finished his education graduating from Jacksonville State University. Louis worked for State Farm Insurance in various locations across Alabama for approximately 10 years. Around 1969 he became part owner in Quality Auto Parts and was a member of the Talladega business community for over 35 years. Louis never did anything part way and had influenced countless people across is life. He attended Central Baptist for approximately 55 years, singing in the choir, serving as a Deacon and church Treasurer, and where he also taught a Men’s Sunday school class for approximately 30 of those years. Louis lastly taught a Women’s Sunday school class for a brief period before stepping down due to health issues. For decades he was an active member of the Gideons International, speaking at various churches across the state. He also was a volunteer at the Talladega Federal Correctional Institute leading weekly Bible study for over 30 years. Louis is preceded in death by his father, Lumis Nolan Willoughby and his mother, Francis Holt Willoughby. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ellaree Williams Willoughby, son, Jeffery Nolan Willoughby, brother, Bill R. Willoughby and sister-in-law, Ruth Nash Willoughby, sister-in-law, Helen Merrill, numerous cousins and loving nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations in memory of Louis be made to Central Baptist Church or The Gideons International Memorial Bible Fund.
