Betty Jane Langdon Conner Currey
Betty has spent her life loving people for 89 years. After college at Millsaps in Jackson, MS she served
as Secretary of Capitol Street United Methodist Church until she married The Rev. James Conner.
Then she served Jesus as a Pastor’s wife and mother of four children: David Conner of Denver, CO,
Tommy Conner of Hattiesburg, MS, John Syd Conner of Hattiesburg, MS, and Beth Conner Nicholson
of Prattville, AL. When James passed away, she moved into her own home in Gautier, MS, where her
mother and father, Leon and Wilma Langdon, and her sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Franz
Posey lived, bringing the Langdon family back together again. During this time she served as Church
Secretary for Gautier United Methodist Church. When her parents died she moved to the Seashore
Manor Methodist Retirement Condo in Biloxi, MS and lived there for a short two years. After a bout
with cancer, she moved to Prattville, AL to live with her daughter and son-in-law
Beth and Joe
Nicholson and her grandchildren John, Mike and Bonnie. While there, Betty married a widowed
Methodist minister from Mississippi, George Currey. His children became hers, Angie Irvin of
Pensacola, FL, Camille Irvin of Dallas, TX, and Todd Currey of Irmo, SC. She moved to Pensacola, FL
with George. They served at Lathrum Chapel UMC in Cantoment, FL for two and a half years, and
were active in First United Methodist Church of Pensacola. After Hurricane Ivan, they moved to the
Anniston area of Alabama, and lived there 11 years. Six weeks ago, when George and Betty moved to
Cara Vita Retirement Village in Montgomery, AL, she subsequently discovered her illness. She was in
Baptist Hospital of Prattville where she passed away pain free and peacefully under hospice care.
She leaves behind her husband George Currey; sisters in law Francis Schaffer, Cindy Launhardt and
Glenda Currey; brothers in law Ralph Bartsch and Franz Posey; children David Conner, Syd Conner,
Tommy Conner, Beth Nicholson, Angie Irvin, Camille Irvin, and Todd Currey; grandchildren Becky
