John Thomas Oakes passed away at the age of 58 Tuesday morning, April 12, 2016, at St. Vincent’s East Hospital in Trussville. He was a lifelong resident of St. Clair County and a member of Ashville First Baptist Church. John is preceded in death by his parents George W. and Louise Oakes. He is survived by his wife of 37 years Carol Oakes, son Jonathan Oakes, and brother George Oakes. John was an active member in his community and devoted his life to agriculture. He was a devoted family man who was always willing to help others. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, April 15, 2016 at Ashville First Baptist with burial at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church in Springville. The family will receive friends Friday from 9:30 – 11:00 am at the church. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Big Oak Girls’ Ranch, Ashville First Baptist, or to the Diabetes or Kidney Association.
