Obituary of Keith Earl Croffoot

Keith Croffoot's Obituary A memorial service for Keith E. Croffoot, 79, will be on Thurs feb. 25 at 6:00 Pm at Eulaton United Methodist Church, Anniston, where he attended, with the Rev. Virgil Bohn and Rev. Henry Gibson officiating. Mr. Croffoot died on February 19 at home. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Janet Croffoot, of Oxford, two daughters, Jamie Girot of Anniston and Julie Bass of Eastaboga, and one son, Timothy Croffoot (LouAnn) of Bossier City, LA.; 2 sisters, Lois Baker and Linda Reitz, both of Hanover, IL.; and brother, Karl Croffoot of Sierra Vista, AZ; 2 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren and 4 step- great grandchildren and many Nieces and Nephews. Mr. Croffoot was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Lucille Croffoot. Mr. Croffoot was born in Freeport, Illinois, and served for 2 years in the Army. He was a lifetime member and past Commander of Hanover VFW Post 5300. He owned the Shell station in Hanover, IL., and was a bus driver for Scenic Stage Lines, as well as a volunteer fireman for the Hanover Fire department. He began working at the Savanna Army Depot as a Guard in 1966 and became a fireman there in 1967. In 1976 he moved his family to Bynum, AL., where he continued his firefighting career at the Anniston Army Depot. He retired from the position of Fire Chief at the Anniston Army Depot in February 1992. He and his wife, Janet, travelled throughout the United States in a travel trailer for 11 years and made many friends along the way. They sold the trailer in 2004, and lived in Mission, TX for 6 years. In 2010, they moved back home to Oxford, AL., where he enjoyed his favorite pastime, fishing. He was an avid Bass and Crappie fisherman and won many Bass tournaments in his Skeeter boat on Logan Martin Lake. When not fishing, he taught many Driver Safety courses for AARP and he worked diligently to bring the Yellow Dot program to the local area. He never met a stranger and he loved to make people laugh, especially his friends in his Sunday School class at Eulaton United Methodist Church.
