Obituary of Joyce Avery Ray

Mrs. Joyce Avery Ray, better known as "Chink", age 86, of Cropwell passed away
at her home on October 27, 2015.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Pelham Alloy Martin
Mrs. Ray was a retired legal secretary. Her last employment was as Alto Lee's secretary at the law firm of Lee and McGinnis in Dothan, Alabama. Mrs. Ray attended Ensley High School and then Auburn University where she was selected as a majorette before band members included females. She was a member of the VA Women's Auxillary and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Pell City where she was very active. She was a member of the Verona Perry Sunday School Class.
She is survived by her husband, Edwin Ray; son, Matthew Martin; stepsons, Charles Ray and Carlton Ray; stepdaughter, Charlotte Covin; by nine grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be at 2:00 pm on Thursday October 29, 2015 at Usrey Funeral Home, Pell City with burial to follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
