Obituary of Yvonne V. Grice

Funeral service for Yvonne V. Grice, 85, of Talladega will be Monday October 26, 2015, at 11:00 A.M. at Usrey Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Glenn Horn will officiate. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery. Her family will receive friends Sunday from 6-8 P.M. and Usrey Funeral Home of Talladega will direct. Mrs. Grice passed away October 22, 2015, at her home. She is preceded in death by her husband, Samuel L. Grice; parents, James and Nannie Vickers; sisters, Jean Culberson and Cathel Clark; and brother, Gerald Vickers. Mrs. Grice was born in Alexander City, AL and moved to Bemiston with her family as a young teenager. She graduated from Talladega High School in 1948 and was a founding member of Bemiston United Methodist Church. She retired from the State of Alabama as the Chief Clerk in the Circuit Clerk’s office in Talladega County. Yvonne enjoyed traveling in the RV with her husband, Sam, and visited every state in the continental United States as well as Mexico and Canada. They traveled often with friends and took their grandchildren along on many trips as well. She loved crock pots and owned dozens but didn’t particularly enjoy cooking. She loved dancing, campaigning and entertaining. Basically, she loved people. And if you ever talked to her, you know this because you’ve been called “Shug”. Mrs. Grice is survived by her children, Sam Grice II (Cindy) and Sandy Kauffman (James); grandchildren, Ryan Kauffman (Ashley), Ginger Culverhouse (Justin), Samuel Kauffman (Jenni), Zachary Grice and Claire Grice; 3 great-grandchildren; sister, Nelda Coupland; brother, Michael J. Vickers; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Clarence Haynes, Travis Ford, Ryan Kauffman, Justin Culverhouse, Samuel Kauffman and Zachary Grice.
