Obituary of Fred T. Watts, Jr.

Fred T. Watts, Jr. passed away peacefully on Sept. 6, 2015 in a Jasper, IN nursing home from congestive heart failure and dementia. He was born on Dec. 25, 1924 in Birmingham, AL to Fred T. Watts, Sr. and Ruby Florence Kyle Watts. He liked to say he was Jesus since he was born on Christmas. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dot, daughter Janet, three brothers and his sister (Kyle Watts, Robert Watts, John Watts and Virginia Hubbard). Fred is survived by five children (Ramona Saaré, James Johnson, Glenn Watts, K.K. Jacobsma and Gary Watts), 11 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and three great, great grandchildren. Fred left Talladega High School in his Junior Year at age 17 to join the Army Air Corps where he served State-side as a pilot for three years during WWII in addition to training Glider Pilots. He was proud of his service to his country as a Warrant Officer. Fred began working for General Electric in Anniston, AL in the 50’s and transferred to Owensboro, KY in the 60’s. He spent 1970-1980 working for G.E. in Singapore. During the 70’s, he visited almost 40 countries before returning to Owensboro, KY where he later retired. In recent years, he started most days with, “Where are we going today?” and loved going to family functions. There will be a service to honor Fred’s life on Friday, Sept. 11, 2015 at the Usrey Brown Service Funeral Home located at 516 North St. East in Talladega, AL. Visitation: 1-3 p.m. Chapel Service 3 p.m. with Burial to follow at Pine Hill Memorial Park.
