Obituary of Rachel I. Thompson Dunlap

Rachel was born November 8, 1919 in Adairsville, GA and at 6 weeks of age became a resident of St. Clair County. At the age of 95 she left this failing body of flesh she was housed in on June 9, 2015 to be robed in a new body to enjoy health, peace, comfort and love in the presence of her Savior Jesus Christ. She was preceded in death by husbands James Hugh Thompson and Harold E. Dunlap , parents Clifford E. and Stella (Thomas) Mashburn, sons Marvin Stanley and James Stevie Thompson, step-sons Raymond and Louis Dunlap, one sister, three brothers and a host of special friends and extended family. Survived by daughters Julia (William) Harwell and Sandra (Wayne) Gilliland, son Carey (Theresa) Thompson, daughter-in-law Doris Thompson, step-daughters-in –law Wanda and Linda Dunlap, step-son Martin (Bonnie) Dunlap and sister Mary Massey, fourteen grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren and a multitude of cousins, nieces and nephews. She was an active member of Friendship Baptist Church, as long as her health allowed. She served St. Clair County as a poll worker for many years. At age 67 she obtained her GED Certificate and took Adult Classes at John Pope Eden Career Tech. After being single for twenty-four years; she was working at ADESA where she met her second love and they served in the church together and enjoyed traveling. The family wants to thank the care givers of Care First and Oasis Hospice. A special thanks to Kathy Foust, sitter and Ella Dean Latham dear friend and sitter. Services for Mrs. Dunlap will be at 11:00 A.M. Friday, June 12, 2015 at Friendship Baptist Church in Springville with Rev. Billy Hunt and Rev. John Faulkner officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 5:30 until 8:00 at Usrey Funeral Home, Pell City.
