Obituary of Douglas Roy Evans, Sr.

Services for Douglas Roy Evans, Sr., 76, will be at Usrey Funeral Home, Pell City on Sunday, May 31, 2015 at 3:00 PM. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 3:00. On Thursday, May 28, 2015 he went home to be with Jesus. Doug and the love of his life, Judy, were married for over 57 years. An Anniston, Alabama native, he lived the past 17 years in Ragland. He was a great father to daughter Tina and sons Roy and Bruce. He owned Doug’s Beverage Store in Anniston on 12th Street and later bought and sold timber mainly through Shaddix Pulpwood in Ragland. He loved his children and they knew it. He enjoyed attending their sporting events in high school and college. Spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought him great joy and laughter. He loved life and his family. His biscuits and gravy were second to none. His homemade hush puppies and fried catfish were incredible. Because he was such a loving husband, caring Daddy, wonderful Paw Paw and fantastic Grand Paw Paw, it is a bittersweet time for us. We miss him so much already, but we know Heaven is now his home and he walks the streets of gold without pain or suffering. Doug is missed by his wife, Judy Evans, daughter Tina Delashmit (Bubba), son Roy Evans (Karen), son Bruce Evans (Sherrie), 10 grandchildren, Amy Johnson, Ashley Antley, Jessica Deese, Brett Evans, Katie Miller, Brooke E. Beene, Tyde Evans, Shelby Evans, Regan Bryant, and Tommy Bryant,13 great-grandchildren, sisters Edna Vills (Clarence)and Hellen Alderman, brother Johnny Evans, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers Jerry Evans, Sonny Evans, and Charlie Evans; sisters Shirley, Gloria, Sarah, and Evelyn; and by his parents William A. Evans and Irma Evans. Pallbearers will be Bobby Evans, Ray Burgess, Bubba Delashmit, Smiley Higginbotham, Kevin Kingery, and Wayne Crawford, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Brett Evans, Kenneth Tipton, and Poochie Nunnally.
