Obituary of James E. Lackey

Funeral service for James E. Lackey, 81, of Hollins AL, will be Saturday, August 10, 2013 at 10 AM from the chapel of Usrey Funeral Home of Talladega. Pastors Bob Owens, Jerry Lackey and Marshall Lackey will officiate and burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. His family will receive friends Friday from 6-8 PM at Usrey Funeral Home. Mr. Lackey passed away August 6, 2013 at Trinity Medical Center. He is preceded in death by his first wife of 50 years, Barbara Lackey, parents, Charlie and Lizzie Lackey, son, Jesse Keith Lackey, granddaughter, Barbara Ann Lackey, sister Pearl Jones and brother, Charles Lackey. Mr. Lackey was a native of Tallapoosa Georgia and a long time Talladega resident. He was retired from AIB with 44 years of service, last being the warehouse manager. He was a member of Parkdale United Methodist Church. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and was also known as a singer and musician. He performed with his first wife Barbara singing gospel and county music. He later carried on his music with Corene. He is survived by his wife Corene Lackey, children, Stanley Lackey (Sheila), Carolyn Martin (Bobby), Sheila Dillingham (Jimmy), Frankie Lackey (Evonne), Jackie Mitchell (Danny), Rita Chappell (Jimmy), Vickey Matthews (Steve) and step-daughter Gale Piekarski (Ken), 17 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, sisters, Addie Mae Osborne, Essie Hester, brothers, Marshall Lackey, Jerry Lackey and Randy Lackey and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Dillingham, Jamie Wheeler, Colby Wheeler, Kaleb Martin, Steve Matthews and Evan Vanzo.
