Obituary of Mary Elizabeth Stewart Harris

Funeral service for Mary Elizabeth Stewart “Betty’ Harris, 66 of Auburn, formerly of Talladega, will be Friday July 26, 2013 at 10:00 AM at The First United Methodist Church of Talladega. Rev. Chette Williams will officiate and burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Her family will receive friends from 9AM till service time at the church. Usrey Funeral Home of Talladega will direct. Mrs. Harris passed away July 24, 2013 in Columbus, GA. She was born in Talladega, AL to Jack Stewart and Elizabeth Jackson Stewart. She had two brothers, Bill and Jim and sister, Kay. Betty graduated from Talladega High School in 1964, attended Auburn University and graduated with a double major in 1968. She was secretary of the student body at Auburn, Vice President of her sorority Alpha Delta Pi, and was selected as outstanding senior woman of her class in 1968. In 1992, she was selected as one of 100 outstanding women graduates of Auburn in 100 years of allowing women to attend Auburn. Betty worked for both AT&T and Bellsouth Telecommunications, and retired in 1995 with 30 years of service. “Betty” was married to Jimmy Harris for 44 years, and had two children, Paige and Patrick Harris.
