Mrs Alberti died November 30, 2010 at Trinity Baptist Hospital in Birmingham. She was born on August 14th, 1921 to Maude Goode and Elmer Knight in Stokesdale, NC. Johnsie joined the Navy in 1943 as a registered nurse, serving in New Zealand as part of the South Pacific campaign, supporting Marines in 1943 and 1944 at the Marshall Islands, Saipan, Marianas, and the Solomon Islands. After WWII, she was promoted to Lieutenant and remained in the Navy until 1950, when she married Donald W. Alberti, an Army officer, who she met when he was one of her patients at Portsmouth Naval Hospital. Throughout their Army lives, they lived in France, Japan and multiple places in the US, and traveled extensively throughout the world. In 1976, Don and Johnsie retired and moved to Lincoln, AL. Johnsie's loving family and many friends remember her as a thoughtful and generous person, and loving mother. Johnsie especially enjoyed the friendship of her Sunday school class, friends and family from her N.C. hometown of Stokesdale, and visits from her grandchildren. Johnsie is survived by her husband of 61 years, COL Donald W. Alberti; son, Donald W. Alberti, Jr. of New York City, NY; daughter Janis Alberti of Venice, FL; Merritt Alberti of Austin, TX; and 4 grand-children.
