Johnny was born December 3, 1945 in Talladega, AL. He passed away Saturday April 27, 2013 at his residence surrounded by is loving family. He was preceded in death by his parents William Ernest and Hazel Chappell Stewart and sister, Mary Teedom Stewart Cox.
He is survived by his children: Joey Stewart (Gina) of Alexandria, AL, Carri Stewart (Alexandra) of Carrollton, GA, and Emily Stewart of Talladega, brother, Franky Stewart (Carolyn), sister, Dottie Stewart Braswell (James) of Talladega. Johnny was the proud uncle of two nieces, Tammy Braswell Liner (Joey) and Samantha Stewart Kearley (Allen), nephew, Brandon Braswell, great-niece, Taylor Canterbury, and two great-nephews, Nick Kearley and Landry Liner of Talladega.
Johnny graduated from Talladega High School and attended Jacksonville State University before enlisting in the U.S. Navy (IC3), serving aboard the USS Ponchatoula during the Vietnam War. After an honorable discharge he graduated from the University of Alabama-Birmingham. He was a member of Bemiston Baptist Church for many years, before moving his membership to First United Methodist Church of Talladega. He was an avid history buff and enjoyed researching his family genealogy and Civil War. Johnny was affectionately called Coach Johnny after coaching the Talladega City Girls Softball league for many years.

Pallbearers will be James Braswell, Brandon Braswell, Allen Kearly, Joey Liner, Joe Sam Galloway, Bob Sprayberry and Hoyt Adair. Honorary pallbearers will be Nick Kearley and Landry Liner.
